Welcome to "Genoa Football Manager", a simple football manager game that gives you
a chance to manage the oldest italian football team in the italian Serie A championship
2005-06 as it should have been after the 2004-05 season (what has actually happened is described
in the other file "the scandal of italian football").

This program is totally free and can be freely distributed (but not sold) and was written to
celebrate Genoa's victory in 2004-05 Serie B, during a summer which was critical not only for us,
Genoa supporters, but for all italian football.

NOTE: "Genoa Football Manager" (GFM) is still in beta version, so if some bugs are found while
playing it I'll be glad to get feedback and criticism.
*** GFM needs at least a 800x600 screen resolution. ***

-------------------------------

** INSTALLATION **

This program doesn't need any installation.
Simply unzip the compressed file on your HD and run GenoaManager.exe to start playing.
To uninstall it, simply delete the directory containing the game files.

--------------------------------

** HOW TO PLAY **

Once the program has started, press any key to go into the main screen.
The computer will show the first opponent.
To play the match, you have to first select 11 players and 6 possible substitutes among the list
shown on the left side of the screen.

NOTE: the players' capabilities are evaluated through 3 parameters: Technique, Fantasy and Condition
which can get values ranging from 1 to 30.
While Technique and Fantasy are fixed for the whole game, the Condition values changes for the players who
take part to each game (+1 point if the game is won, -1 if the game is lost, 0 if draw).

Once you selected the 11 + 6 players, click on "Line Up" to evaluate the resulting team and see the line up
(i.e. 4-4-2, 3-4-3 etc.) then, if you are satisfied with your team, click on "Match" to start the actual game.

During the game, it's possible to influence the team in two ways:
- by substituting a player (first select the player who is going off, then select the player who will take his
place)
- by changing the attitude of the team through a slider (from "Total Defence" to "Crazy Attack")

Once the match is over, by clicking on "Close" the game takes you to the main screen again where it's possible to
check the current standing and the previous results (once on the "Calendar" page, the next-to-be-played match is
displayed, click on "Previous" to check the last results)

The program allows to save the game and pick up it again from the same match day.

** HOW TO CONFIGURE THE GAME **

Genoa Football Manager is highly configurable.

All the configuration files (.dat) are actually simple text files which you can edit in notepad or
whatever other text editor.

Genoa's players list is in the file 'genoa.dat'.
By changing it you can add/delete a player (22 is the maximum number, though) and modify their
characteristics (ranging between 1 and 30).

The format is the following:

>>
Player ID [space] Surname [space] Name [space] Role [one among GK DF MF AT] [space] Age [space] Technique [space] Fantasy [space] Condition [Enter]
<<

For example:

>>
0 Abbiati Christian GK 28 28 25 20
<<

NOTE: a team with "old" players will be less effective towards the end of the match, since the players will get tired faster.

The other teams are listed in the 'teams.dat' file.

The format is the following:

>>
Team ID [space] Name [space] badge file (must be in 'media/badge' subfolder) [enter]
Value for golkeeper technique (from 1 to 30) (note: for the GoalKeeper, fantasy and condition are set to the same value as technique) [enter]
Value technique fantasy condition (average value for Defender, from 1 to 30) [enter]
Value technique fantasy condition (average value for MidFielder, from 1 to 30) [enter]
Value technique fantasy condition (average value for Attacker, from 1 to 30) [enter]
<<

For example:

>>

<<

The championship calendar is in the "calendario.dat" file (there will be 20 teams and 38 match days)

The format is the following:

>>
