1. Introduction
Devospace is a space shoot'em up game in a calm pace.
It's a cloned and expanded version of a game called Monospace by Milo Sedlacek a.k.a gradius who passed away September 24 1998.
Monospace was made in Qbasic, I found it and liked it so much I wanted to make a clone and expand it using c++.

2. Playing
You can move your ship using the arrow keys over the entire playfield.
The playfield is higher than what is visible, so watch out for enemies that you can't see.

You'll start with a simple gun that fires 3 shots a second when you hold it.
But if you tap faster, it'll fire faster, up to 10 shots per second. This gun is fired with CTRL.

When you kill enemies, they'll sometimes drop Missiles that you can pick up.
Missiles can also be floating freely in space for no apparent reason.
You can see how many missiles you have next to the power bar.
Fire missiles with ALT. They have a 1 second reload time.
The missiles will destroy whatever it hits on impact and generate a shockwave.
The shockwave kills all enemies within a comfortable radius of the missile.

So how powerfull is your ship then...
Now we get to the interesting part, your power.
Your ship starts with two power units. This power is both defensive and offensive.
You'll see how much power you have on the bottom left bar.
The enemies sometimes drop power units when killed.
When you pick them up, your power increases.
When you run into an enemy or get hit by their weapons, you loose power.
If it reaches zero you die. But the power affects your ship in many ways.

When you reach power 5,9 and 13 your ship gets stronger attacks, and when you drop to 4,8 and 12 you loose them again. These points are marked on the power bar.
You'll also see that the ships hull changes.
Under power 5 you only have your single firing gun and missile.
At power 5-8 your gun fires dubble shots and you fire two missiles per shot.
At power 9-12 your gun also fire a shot downwards and you fire 3 missiles per shot.
At power 13-16 your gun also fires a gun upwards and you fire 5 missiles per shot.
But the missiles require the right number of missiles in storage, if you don't have enough missiles for a 5 spread, it'll try 3, then 2 and last 1.

You can only reach power 16, here's a big change from Monospace.
In Monospace, when you caught a power unit at full power, you fired a starburst.
In Devospace the extra power is stored. You can see how much you have stored next to the power bar. The starburst is fired when you drop below power 13 because the ship can no longer store the power.
The stored power can be used in two ways.
You can fire a power ray with the X key, it costs 1 power unit and has a 2 second reload time.
You can also go berzerk for 10 seconds with the Z key, it costs 10 power units.
Missiles and power ray don't work in berzerk mode, but the gun shots are now unstoppable and kills everything.

First, moving around. You can use the mouse by holding the right mouse button and move, or you can use the arrow keys on the keyboard.
You can see where you are on the "playfield centre" text and the time bar at the bottom.

You put new objects on the level by clicking the left mouse button.
You select what to put by using the mouse scroll button or the Q and W keys to go through the available objects.

You save your level by pressing S and load it with L.
You can also testplay the level from the editor by pressing P, this will play the level from where you stand on the timeline.

4. Contact
You can mail me on trezker@hotmail.com, though I'm likely to miss your mail among the spam.
I can be reached through irc EFNet #allegro. If I'm online, which is currently very unlikely.
I think the safest way to reach me is through allegro.cc.
You may write in swedish.
