
When you play Aura, you will have to pay close attention to each sound and figure out what it means. The list below is by no means complete, nor does it go into all the subtleties of the sounds that it does list. Those are things for you to discover as you explore the world of Aura; this list is just to help you get started. The included tutorial levels will go into more detail about some of the sounds.
Some things make noise when stepped on, some only make noise when bumped into, and some make some noise of their own.

| A light splash | You just took a step into water |
| A sharp knock | You bumped into a wall |
| A two-tone chime | Someone stepped on a chime tile Chime tiles do nothing, they are there only to help you navigate |
| "Hmm!" | You're standing on something interesting, usually a switch |
| A quick chord | You bumped into a closed door, which can be opened by a switch |
| An ascending arpeggio | A switch has been turned on |
| A descending arpeggio | A switch has been turned off |
| Wind | You are standing next to a pit |
| A Low Hum | You are standing next to a forcefield |
| Warning Beeps | You are standing next to some sort of trap |
| Heavy Thumps | Someone (or something) else is in the room with you |
| "Oh No!" | You have met your gruesome demise... |
| "Yippie!" | You have completed the maze! |
